Nestled in the heart of Tumwater, WA, Teriyaki Delight offers an authentic and satisfying Japanese dining experience that has quickly captured the loyalty of locals and visitors alike. This Japanese restaurant specializes in hearty, flavorful teriyaki dishes paired with a diverse menu that caters wonderfully to those craving both comfort and variety.
Step inside Teriyaki Delight and you’ll immediately notice the inviting, relaxed atmosphere—a perfect spot for casual lunches or dinners without the stiffness of a formal setting. The clean, well-kept dining area complements the warm hospitality, with friendly staff ready to guide you through a menu packed with generous portions and bold flavors.
The culinary highlight here is, unsurprisingly, the teriyaki plates. Whether you choose the classic Chicken Teriyaki Dinner or the rich and savory Chicken Teriyaki and Beef Short Ribs, each dish bursts with the perfect balance of sweet and savory notes. The succulent chicken is expertly marinated and glazed with a smoky, glossy teriyaki sauce, garnished with sesame seeds that give a subtle nutty crunch. Diners praising their portions can attest that these servings are not only plentiful but deeply satisfying, delivering enough flavor to delight the palate in every bite.
Adventurous eaters will find plentiful options beyond teriyaki. The Rainbow Rice dazzles with vibrant colors and textures, while appetizers like Gyoza — pan-fried dumplings with savory minced meat and vegetables — offer that perfect crispy-yet-juicy bite. The Vegetable Tempura provides a light, crunchy contrast, ideal as a side or starter, and the Kung Pao Chicken thrills with its spicy, nutty kick.
Teriyaki Delight’s menu also shines with stir-fried vegetable plates that deliver a wholesome punch—think tender sliced beef or fresh shrimp tossed with assorted vegetables in rich soy and oyster sauces, balancing heartiness with freshness. Sides such as steamed rice, fried rice, and vibrant green salads round out the meal, contributing layers of texture and taste.
One unexpected but delightful surprise noted by a guest was the unique Stubborn Pineapple Cream Soda from the fountain—an uncommon treat that adds a playful twist to the beverage selection, completing the dining experience with a refreshing tropical sparkle.
What truly sets Teriyaki Delight apart, beyond its meticulously prepared dishes, is the consistently warm and attentive customer service. Reviewers repeatedly highlight the welcoming demeanor of the staff, whether it’s the cheerful lady at the counter or the skilled cook working behind the scenes. This genuine friendliness heightens the overall dining experience, making every visit feel personal and memorable.
In sum, Teriyaki Delight is a gem for those seeking authentic Japanese cuisine with robust flavors, hearty portions, and an inviting ambiance. Its dedication to quality and customer satisfaction shines through in every dish served, making it a top choice for food lovers in Tumwater looking to indulge without compromise.
We stopped in for lunch and were quite pleased. The lady working at the counter was welcoming, the tables were spotless, and the atmosphere felt relaxed without being too sterile. One unexpected highlight was the Stubborn Pineapple Cream Soda at the fountain; something you don’t often see. That was a fun change from the usual drink options. The portion sizes were *excellent* (definitely enough to leave full or with leftovers), and the food was flavorful and well-prepared. That said, the Katsu was just a bit on the chewy side, which kept it from being amazing instead of just great. The pricing was a little on the high side for a casual teriyaki place. Not outrageous, but higher than would be expected (most meals are close to $20). All in all, Teriyaki Delight is a solid spot. I’ll likely go back and try it again in the future.
Amazing food, tender and flavorful, no need for extra sauce. HUGE PORTIONS!!! and I don't mean like oh I'm a little European peasant seeing food for the first time, it's like they put five chicken breasts in my plate! I thought I ordered extra! Be careful what you wish for I would recommend sticking to the main appetisers at this place, we ended up taking half of it home because it was so. Much. Food!
Amazing value, most generous portions I’ve ever been served at a restaurant. I got the teriyaki chicken and my buddy got half teriyaki and half katsu. Each of our plates easily had enough chicken for two dinners, the katsu was pleasantly crunchy and both were great for the price — about $22 each after tax and tip. The staff person that took our order was sweet and friendly. Menu design could use an update but it still had a charming locally owned vibe so no big deal.
I have been lucky enough to be able to try most of their menu and I absolutely LOVE IT. You’ll see a lot of comments about the amazing portions and customer service and I would like to really emphasize that along with the food taste. I try to visit other teriyaki locations and really struggle to enjoy it just as much because in the back of my mind, I’m just comparing it to here and those places don’t hold up. For example, I used to love the short ribs from other places but stopped ordering them from anywhere else but here. My personal top 5 list, not ranked, is: Rainbow Fried Rice Beef and Pork Combo Teriyaki Plate Short Rib Plate Kung Pao Chicken Chicken Teriyaki/Beef and Broccoli (I know this is two but even narrowing down to 6 was hard!) I learned that the owners have owned this location for 16 years and I’m disappointed I’ve only started visiting 2 years ago!! I haven’t been recently since they have been so swamped with the recent social media attention but will continue to be a regular once they aren’t drowning in orders and will be a regular for as long as this place stands.
Love this place. Started going a month or so ago with my ol lady. The lady at the register is so nice and helpful, the cook knows his business for sure. I LOVE the portion sizes lol. Can't be beat for the price and quality of food. My lady usually gets rainbow rice and wonton soup, I usually go for the chicken and beef teriyaki with extra teriyaki sauce. They don't add potato as a filler in their teriyaki like most places, so i love that as well. I'm surprised it's not busier, but every time we go, we see them with a handful of online orders and pickup orders prepped.
We had to go with carryout for our first time trying this place. First off the serving sizes are ridiculous in a good way. Staff is very friendly and warm. Food is delicious. What more do you want?
Far exceeds my expectations of the average Teriyaki Restaurant. Clean restaurant and excellent service. Much higher quality ingredients and flawless preparation. Larger than average portions. We'll definitely be back!
